Mindfulness

One conscious breath

10/07/17

Compulsive thinking has become a habit we no longer notice. It just happens. It takes place without our decision neither presence and swirls us into its vortex. At the end of the day we are often depleted and emptied of our energy. However, if we look back at our day, the ratio of energy / time spent on thoughts and what has been accomplished seems highly out of balance.

Our mind produces between 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day. That is a thought every 1,2 seconds! In these circumstances it becomes a challenge remaining creative, having clarity and a wider perspective and being in the presence of our true essence. The constant movement of the mind seems to cover our conscious presence. Life continues without our true presence.

Nevertheless, our actions are a result of habits we have created. The good news is that we can uncreate those not serving us anymore and easily replace them. Getting absorbed in our thoughts is simply a habit which has limiting and sometimes destructive results in our daily lives.

A way to break the loop of thoughts is to concentrate on a single breath. Being with the breath through the length of an inhale and exhale interrupts the cycle of obsessive thinking. Doing this exercise at least 5 or 6 times a day creates a new awareness and enables taking a step back from the inner turmoil. You start stepping back into life through each conscious breath.
